George Cotton with his wife Alice, parents of the famous golfer Henry Cotton. George purchased the Victoria Works, at the time a horticultural business, in 1898 and lived at The Croft on Macclesfield Road. He was Chairman of the Parish Council as well as running the works. He married Alice Le Poidevin in 1904 and they had three children including Henry who was born in 1907.
