Share Your Photos with Homes Chapel Photo Archive

The Holmes Chapel Photo Archive is a growing, community-led collection of images celebrating life in and around the village — past and present. It’s maintained by the Local History Group of the Holmes Chapel and District U3A, and every contribution helps build a richer picture of our shared history.

Whether your photos are decades old or taken last week, they all have a place here. Today’s images are tomorrow’s history.

Why contribute?

Photographs are powerful records of everyday life, capturing people, places, events and moments that might otherwise be forgotten. Many of the images we already hold began life in personal collections, family albums, or drawers at home.

There are still countless photographs out there waiting to be shared.

By contributing, you help:

  • Preserve Holmes Chapel’s history for future generations

  • Add context and depth to existing collections

  • Share stories that might otherwise be lost

Getting started

To upload photos, you’ll first need to register for an account. This helps us manage submissions and keep the archive accurate and well organised.

Once registered, you’ll be able to submit your photos directly to the archive.

What you’ll need to provide

When uploading a photo, we’ll ask for a few simple details to help others understand and find your image:

  • Title - A clear and relevant name for your photo (this will be public)

  • Description - A short explanation of what the photo shows. This could include:

    • Events or occasions

    • Locations or buildings

    • Approximate time period

    • Any background context

Please avoid naming individuals unless you have their permission.

  • Date - If you don’t know the exact date, an estimate is absolutely fine — just mark it as such.

  • Parish - The area the photo relates to

  • Categories - You can select one or more categories to help others discover your image

A quick note

You don’t need to be an expert historian to contribute. Even small details can be valuable, and approximate information is always better than none.
